The Devilheart separates the spirit from the body of a living human so the spirit can travel to the Deadside. While separated neither the spirit nor the body must be ceased to exist.
History
When Dox is using the Devilheart, his spirit is corrupted by Master Darque in the Deadside so it wouldn't be able to return to the body in the Liveside. Dox's spirit is then decapitated by Shadowman and Dox dies.
